I'll admit, I'm not much of a techie. And I'm sure there are a few techie types out there who would chafe at being labeled techie. They'd probably rather be labeled crafty. Which I get. I mean, I get that. Crafty sounds better. So I'm not crafty. But I still think I'm not techie. A conversation this weekend laid bare my drastic inability to fix a ding in a pretty way. I just don't have the patience to make it look good. I can't figure out whether I've developed a specific sort of artsy craftsy patchwork hobo jalopy aesthetic to meet my abilities, or developed my abilities to meet the aesthetic. But it's there, plain as day, in just about everything I do. So I'll never shape a beautifully competent surfboard. I'll never master the nuances of that craft to make something go in that peculiarly spectacular way. Generally, talk of such things only hold my attention for so long. I guess all this dumbing down has made me an experientialist. So it's not often that I get excited about looking at board construction without being hand held through the whole process. I don't mind being hand held. Hold my hand. So it is that we come to this, a neat little blog about making boards presented in just such a way, like the iridescent sheen of a beetle shell, that captures my imagination. Click on the photo to see what I'm talking about.
