Happy Thanksgiving from Endless Bummer NY (Carlsbad Bureau Style)

Morning dawns too late for a surf after a long flight, as family abounds around.

But the swell is coming up and the temp is rising for the weekend.

SB Tea Bowls

Fires singed the outskirts of Santa Barbara last week. Many people lost their homes and and the college I went to lost a few buildings. Apparently the fire was started no too far from where we used to skate up in the Montecito hills on an old property that had the most incredibly ridable bowls. This was in the early 90's. I only skated it a handful of times before the security got way too tight and the broken glass and dirt left by the caretakers got to be too much of a pain to clean out. Even over the Riviera hill-bombs and The Widge inspired Chapala ditch grinding, those tea sessions are by far the best skate memories available to me. Ian just forwarded me a link that had some great old footage of that place. Here is a string of choice bits with appropriate music. Positive thoughts go out to those who lost much in the fire.

Carlsbad Bureau Shout Out!

Just in time for our intended return, Red, the man who calls, among others, my son namesake (and apparently a gleam in his eye) gets the big volleyball recognition in Carlsbad magazine. Yep, this is a surf blog, and yep, mostly an East Coast surf blog, but this is too good to pass up. Way to go on making the rag, Papa. Not half the nod you deserve overall, but a nice little bit of props for one of the special things you've done over the years. See you very soon.

Offspring of all ages are encouraged to attend!

The five minute French spectacular short film "The Surf Magazines Don't Talk About Lapsed Catholics" will be screened in its full five minute entirety around 6:oo PM at Zebulon on Wythe Street in Brooklyn this coming Saturday the fifteenth. My father will be in town, it's my birthday, and a bunch of people haven't seen this dollop of rubbish yet, so I figured. . . and besides, Jef seems amped to do the honors, and I am not about to turn him down.
Read more about my views on Zebulon here and here and here.

Anyhow, it shouldn't take too much time out of your day, if you are available, and I hope to see you there, if you can make it.
